Cal Poly Students go-to weekend destination

Big Sur- located just about 90 miles north of the heart of San Luis Obispo, has Cal Poly students making the quick, easy, and scenic trip up quite frequently, while making use of their University Travel resources offered by the school.

With the drive up being the most memorable and pleasing-to-the-eye part of the trip, there was no dreadful or painfully boring drive that most roadtrips tend to entail. This way, Big Sur is easily accessible to reach in just one day if staying for the weekend is a stretch on time or studies- makes sense for being one of the Top-rated day trips here in San Luis Obispo!

A group of second-year girls made the spontaneous decision to drive up to Plaskett campground for the night to enjoy some hotdogs, campfire time, and an unbeatable sunrise.

Though I was at first hesitant to attend, Cal Poly made it an easy decision due to how easy it is to rent camping gear such as tents, sleeping bags, etc. Or, you can never go wrong with car camping!

Embarking on quick trips like these allow for friends to come together without their cell phones or any surface-level distractions, and enjoy one another’s presence in nature.

I personally gained a new appreciation for the central coast and it’s hidden beauty during this one-night outing, along with knowledge about new destinations or spots to go to that I would never have known existed before.

Friends Lindsey and Paige skip down to the cliffside to watch the sun set. This park was green and wet, with a very forest-like ambience.

After the night we headed home following a sunrise above the clouds. Stopping at the only gas station in town, we got ourselves a warm cup of coffee with some snacks for the once-again show stopping drive home. Plaskett campground in Big Sur is Cal Poly students go-to weekend destination, and I get why!

The rolling hills that make up Plaskett lay above the clouds on a normal day. Visitors drive up the bumpy and windy 20 minute drive to then pick their favorite mountain-top destination and settle there for the night.
